Person-centered care was developed by prof. Kitwood around 3 decades ago and underlies many beautiful methodologies that aim to improve the lives of people living with dementia (PLWD) and everyone who cares for them. I blend elements of Montessori for Dementia and Spaced Retrieval (C. Camp), Namaste Care (J. Simmard) and Function-Focused Care (Resnick & Gallick) with mindfulness into my mentoring, courses and meditations.
The essence of my work is: Inclusiveness through Attention and Appreciation
The ultimate outcome of our interactions with people with dementia (and anyone else!) should be Inclusiveness, which aims for people to have a role and meaningful activity AS WELL AS to feel connected to their physical environment, their appearance, a community (small or large) and significant others (new or old) – the pillars of Person-Centered Care.
